In 1894, Joseph Meyer Schulte and his wife, Alvina Tobian, were blessed with three grandchildren, one born to each of their three oldest children. (Their youngest son Ted was just eight years old at that time.) I estimate this picture to have been taken circa 1901, give or take.
The grandchildren, left to right, were:
- Mamie, born to Joseph's daughter Ida on 9 May 1894.
- Elmer, born to Joseph's son Rudolph on 4 August 1894.
- Evelyn, born to Joseph's daughter Elizabeth on 1 April 1894.
I think Elmer resembles both of the girls to some extent, but the girls don't resemble each other. What do you think?

Gorgeous photo, T.K.
Thanks, Kathryn, I was so excited to find it. I thought I'd already seen all the old photos, but my mom had put this one in an album for my nephew.
This post turned out great, TK. As I told you before, I just love the photo. I think they all look so cute and are dressed up so nicely. I never saw that picture of my grandfather before.
Cheryl, I just realized this picture would have been taken about the same time period (1901-1902) that Lizzie and Ida were living together at 806 Rivard, so Mamie and Evelyn were living like sisters at the time. Then Lizzie got married at the end of 1902, so she and Evelyn would have moved to George Corneilson's house on Townsend.
Thanks for commenting on my blog today. I wanted to tell you that yesterday at Plimoth Plantation they re-created the Hopkins wedding (even though it took place in England). It was the first pre-1620 event re-created there. I hope they post lots of photos for you Hopkins descendants.
Thanks for the heads-up, Heather. I'll have to go check at their website.
I'm gonna have to plan a trip there while I'm living on this side of the country!
I love this pic. I could probably analyze the dress of the children forever. Precious.
Isn't this a great one, Kathleen! You know, Evelyn had TB of the bone when she was about 3 (which is when her father died of TB). It left her with a badly curved spine. Otherwise, she would be standing about as tall as Mamie in this photo.
