Clarence Monroe Burton, that's who. Recognize the name? Detroit researchers should. He was the man whose Historical Collection we love to visit at Detroit Public Library.
I happened upon a short biography about him on pages 22-25 in Amy Elliott Bragg's very readable Hidden History of Detroit. Enjoy!
I'm particularly appreciative of the Burton Historical Collection at present. I spent a day at Detroit Public Library a couple weeks ago, looking up my ancestral families in the Catholic churchbooks of Detroit. Records up to 1930 are available on microfilm at the library. I came home with a baker's dozen, pertaining to my Hauer and Wolfschlager lines. A few of them lend support to my suspicion that the various Wolfschlagers and Wolfslayers of Detroit are all related.
If you think you may be related, please check my Hauer and Wolfschlager surname pages for more about these lines. Contact me and let me know how you are related. I'm actively working on these two lines currently, and I have much more information to share.

Before My Time is about the ancestry and extended family of my four grandparents: John Samuel Krentz (Indiana/North Dakota), Margreta Tjode Hedwig (Gertie) Buss (North Dakota), Rosmer Pettis Kerr (Pennsylvania/Michigan), and Evelyn Elvina Hauer (Michigan). Thanks for the Burton biography. It's been years since I've researched in the Burton Collection, but going back is on my "to do" list. I really enjoy The Night Train blog, too. Cathy @ palmsrv
I just found The Night Train yesterday, Cathy, after fiddling around in the forums at DetroitYES. Have you ever checked that out? TONS of Detroit history there, great fun to read:
